INTERESTED IN PLAYING SPORT IN THE US?
Sport Wellington is hosting an information evening on ‘gaining sporting and academic scholarships in the US.’
This is a great one off opportunity for aspiring athletes and parents to learn of the requirements, expectations – sporting and academic – and opportunities that attending a US university can offer.
Just over a year ago, Sport Wellington staff Louise Curtis' life changed drastically. Louise had an awake craniotomy to remove a brain tumour that was found to be cancer.
Instead of letting her diagnosis slow her down, Louise set out to make a difference. “I have been told I might have five years left, if that. I’d like to know that I can help, and do something in that time” says Louise.
The 44 year old mother of two and keen cyclist embarked on what she calls ‘A Year on my Bike,’ taking part in a number of cycling events to raise money for the Cancer Society of Wellington and the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research.
Louise has already held a number of fundraisers and completed the 100km Grape Ride in Marlborough. She is currently gearing up for The Crank in August, a 12 hour RPM event at Les Mills Extreme, and the 100km ‘Tour of Waikanae’ in October. She will then take on the main event, the ‘Ride to Conquer Cancer’ in Auckland where she will bike 200kms over 2 days.
Louise needs to raise at least $2500 to take part in the ‘Ride to Conquer Cancer’ – she is half way there. Show your support and get behind Louise by helping her fundraise at the link below.
Every contribution counts, like Louise says “with my bike, my helmet, and your generosity, a real impact will be made!”
