Volunteers like to feel that the organisation they work at values the work they do. Saying thanks is a simple way to acknowledge volunteers and will lead to better retention and even recruitment. A variety of volunteering resources are available on the Sport Wellington website.
Congratulations to the The Exercise Studio Silverstream for becoming the first Approved Strength and Balance programme in the Greater Wellington region.
They have met the nationally approved evidence based criteria that shows this class will help people keep strong and independent. The class is a circuit class for seniors (60+) focusing on strength, balance and coordination.
If other exercise providers or volunteers would like to be involved in this project, please check out the information we have on our Sport Wellington website.
Congratulations to the Wellington marching teams for taking out first place in all grades at the North Island Marching Championships held in Wellington over the weekend!
Happy International Volunteer Day!
International Volunteer Day (IV Day) is a United Nations led initiative that offers an opportunity for volunteer organizations and individual volunteers to make their contributions visible.
One billion people volunteer around the world, all giving their time and skills to improve communities, save lives, fix things that are broken, and bring people together.
The work of volunteers across all sport and recreation is a big part of this global movement of volunteers, and has major impact on the wider community. More and more, their work is playing a crucial role in the successes of our sport organisations.
So please take the time on IV Day to recognise your volunteers for their work and the impact their work has on your organisation.
Join the Healthy Lifestyles Team at Sport Wellington as the Strength and Balance Coordinator (Older People).
This is an exciting new role where you can positively impact the growth of community exercise classes for older people. Follow the link for more information.
Sport Wellington recently hosted a leadership workshop which was attended by national and regional leaders from the sport and recreation sector.
This was the first workshop to come from the leadership framework that Sport New Zealand, Sport Wellington and the sector have been jointly developing over the past 20 months.
The focus was on 'leading my organisation' and 'leading others' and also provided an excellent opportunity for the various sport and recreation participants to network.
The learnings from this ‘pilot’ will be included in the other four settings of leadership (leading self - leading teams - leading leaders - governing organisations). The full leadership system will be incrementally rolled out in 2018 and made available to the sport and recreation sector.
