Sport Wellington has been at the forefront of acknowledging and recognizing the achievements of local sports people and the valuable work volunteers do within the sporting sector.

The Wellington Sportsperson of the Year Awards serve to acknowledge, promote, and celebrate the contribution that sport makes to the wider Wellington community.

The awards are organised by Sport Wellington and have been named one of the most prestigious events on the Wellington sporting and social calendar.

She Moves. She Leads. We Win is being held in Wellington next month. Speakers including Melodie Robinson, Sarah Cowely and Professor Sarah Leberman will be sharing their thoughts and experiences under the themes of Wellbeing, Careers, Leadership and Community. Anyone who is invested in women and girl's participation in sport and recreation (from the playing field to the boardroom) is encouraged to join. Follow the link for more information.

Want to try something new or keen to test your balancing skills? Gibbons Slacklines need 1,000 pairs of feet to take on the Global City Slackline Challenge in Porirua on the 19th of October! Porirua is the only city in the southern hemisphere invited to participate in the challenge issued by Gibbon Slacklines. Each entrant needs to balance on a slackline for 10 seconds to enter. The challenge takes place in the city centre Cobham Court between 4.00-8.30pm on 19 October. The challenge is open to all ages. Entrants will be entertained by Whitireia DJs. The SlackCity Porirua team will provide the slacklines on the day and each successful entry will be added to the total. In the meantime, people can get some practice at the Porirua City Council Slackline Park at Ngāti Toa Domain, the first one to be built in New Zealand. The new Hydrotherapy pool at Huia Pool in Lower Hutt provided our Healthy Lifestyles team with an exciting opportunity to get the residents enrolled in the Green Prescription (GRx) programme to make the most of it! A group of over 40 people came together to do weekly aqua aerobic classes in the new pool and learnt some interesting facts about nutrition, including portion control and mindful eating.
