GRx Active Families

About Green Prescription Active Families is a SPARC initiative run through Sport Wellington Region which aims to support, educate and encourage families to set goals for lifestyle change, physical activity levels and nutrition assistance in children and young people.
Predominantly the aim of this free programme is to target childhood obesity, weight issues and other health problems which would benefit from physical activity through realistic goal setting, ongoing support, encouragement and education.

Who can be referred? Children and young people between the ages of 5 to 18 years old are referred to the programme through a broad range of health professionals including: General Practioners, Nurses (both school and practice), Social Workers, Paediatricians, Dieticians, and a wide range of Community Health workers. Families are also able to self refer onto the programme. |

What will the family will receive? - Monthly home visits to the family to assist with encouraging and educating the family to be more active and adopt a healthier lifestyle.
- Opportunity for the entire family to attend Active Families Activity Sessions. These sessions are held weekly during school terms throughout the Wellington region. Within these sessions families have fun participating in a wide range of sports, games and activities, including healthy cooking sessions.
- Ongoing information about up and coming physical activity events and family fun days throughout the Wellington Region.

Families are referred onto the programme for 12 months of which at the end of this the aim is that the family graduates and now has the capability to continue with their lifestyle changes, enhancing their health and wellbeing. For more information please contact:
