'Step It Up' Results

Over 200 teams took up the challenge of climbing Aoraki/Mt Cook as part of the Corporate Challenge run by Sport Wellington for Push Play month. Many of the corporates took this challenge very seriously, some reportedly coming into the office in the weekend to ensure they met their requirements. Please note that Sport Wellington take no responsibility for any negative changes in work productivity for the month of October.

Pelorus Trust Wellington Round the Bays & New Balance Half Marathon

Sport Wellington are pleased to announce that Pelorus Trust will be the naming rights sponsor for the annual Round the Bays fun run and walk for 2009. Not only this but New Balance have also come on board as the naming rights sponsor for the new half marathon option to be included. 

The event will be held on Sunday 15th February 2009. Participants will have the choice of participating in the 7km run or walk, or the half marathon run.

Registrations will be open from early December at www.wellingtonroundthebays.co.nz.

Sport Wellington Coach of the Month - November

Nick Mita is the coach of the Month for November. In 2008 Nick has been the coach of all the Wellington Squash District Representative teams, Senior & Junior. The Senior men won the national title for the second consecutive year. The Junior women won the NZ Junior national title for the first time in 16 years. Along with these national success’s Nick also coached both the Junior & Senior Tri Angular Teams, winning both titles His contribution and guidance has been instrumental in all the squash teams success.

Peter Jack is the Volunteer of the Month for November. Peter has been a member of the Kiwi Athletic club for 44 years and currently the Chairman, President, Publicity Officer, Coach and a lot more.

His dedication and contribution to Athletics has been enormous plus he is always supporting and promoting others in all sports

Safety Net and Coaching Resources available online

Sport Wellington have just launched two free online resources for anyone interested in coaching. Safety Net introduces a code of ethics for coaches and basic safety concepts for coaching. The Coaching Resource is aimed at those who want to get started in coaching. Both are interactive resources that provide you with the correct answers along the way. Regional Services Advisor - Kapiti

A new Regional Services Advisor has been appointed to the Sport Wellington - Kapiti office, Jan Nisbet. Jan has worked in Kapiti for a lengthy period of time and comes to Sport Wellington with a wide range of experience and qualifications.

No exceptions, Hutt Valley District

The Hutt Valley is leading the charge in New Zealand for including people with disability in sport and active recreation.

On Tuesday 28th August 2007 the mayors from Hutt City (HCC) and Upper Hutt City (UHCC), along with the chairman of the Hutt Valley District Health Board (HVDHB) signed a ‘No Exceptions’ declaration, stating their aim to be the first fully active, fully inclusive community.
