With just two weeks before the big day, AMI Round the Bays has sold out for a second year in a row. The event reached its capacity 13,000 public entries last night. Our official charity partner has a limited number of Run for research entries available through their website.
The Malaghan Institute of Medical Research is the Official Charity Partner for AMI Round the Bays. They are New Zealand's leading independent medical research institute and are based right here in Wellington.Last-minute runners and walkers can join them on the journey to find better treatments and cures by signing up to Run for Research.
AMI Round the Bays, on Sunday 17 February, continues to be an extremely popular event on the Wellington region’s calendar.
“Congratulations to all 13,000 people already entered. They’re in for a fantastic day of entertainment, during their run or walk there’ll be a ZM Pit Stop, a band at Kio Bay, Les Mills Cheer Squad at Cog Park and at the Southern Cross Family Zone at the Kilbirnie Park finish. It’s going to be one big party,” says event director Craig Ireson, Sport Wellington.
Neo-soul and home town diva Iva Lamkum has been confirmed as the headline act at the festival. There’ll also be free children’s entertainment and BBQ sites. Runners in the ISC Lenco Half Marathon will be treated to entertainment at the Placemakers Evan’s Bay ‘half-way hooray’ at Shelly Bay.
Last year, for the first time in the event’s 30 year history, the 7km fun run was a sell out with 12,000 entries. Entries were boosted by 1000 this year but interest in running or walking in one of New Zealand’s largest events has again been overwhelming.
Extremely limited entries are still available for the ISC Lenco Half Marathon on the AMI Round the Bays website www.wellingtonroundthebays.co.nz
However Craig encourages those people who have missed out, to sponsor a runner or walker and be part of the journey that way.
Team registrations for AMI Round the Bays closed yesterday with almost 500 teams on board. “With each team averaging 20 members there will be a real buzz among groups lining up for the starter’s gun,” says Craig.
