Organised Crime and drugs in Sport

Message for the Sector – organised crime and drugs in sport.   As you may be aware, the Minister for Sport and Recreation Murray McCully has asked sports agencies here in New Zealand to consider the implications of a recently released Australian report into organised crime and drugs in sport.

Sport NZ, High Performance Sport NZ and Drug Free Sport NZ will now work together to consider the implications of the report, working in consultation with the New Zealand Olympic Committee and other relevant bodies.

Our aim will be to find out more about the situation in Australia, determine whether similar conditions exist in New Zealand, and whether a similar investigation is warranted here.

We will be approaching some of our partners in the sector for help with this work, and thank you in advance for your co-operation. We would also be keen to hear from any of our partners who feel they have something to contribute, and I would encourage you to contact your Relationship Manager.

Peter Miskimmin
