We celebrate volunteers every day but in light of International Volunteer Day we want to celebrate our Volunteer Senior Advisor Ken Allen who received a Kiwibank Local Hero Award earlier this week! Congratulations Ken! Ken is not only the Volunteer Senior Advisor here at Sport Wellington, he's also a Board Trustee of Wellington Community Trust and the Newtown Community & Cultural Centre Ken is an active and highly respected volunteer in the Wellington community who talks the talk and walks the walk. For 24 hrs weekly he provides guidance, leadership and resources for Sport Wellington in developing and furthering relationships in sport. In the rest of his time, his numerous volunteer commitments have ranged from establishing the Newtown Ethical Lending Trust, Kaibosh Food Rescue, local league netball refeering, football club administration to a leadership roles as a Board Trustee of the Wellington Community Trust. Ken is 100% an unsung hero in the community. His integrity, passion and compassion for helping is the fabric of his character. He is a master of the art of "a quiet word" to help someone, offer support or advice or some guidance. As an unsung hero, it is very fitting for him to be recognised as a local hero.
