Welcome to the KiwiSport On-line Funding Application.

Who May Apply

Sport Wellington will consider applications from schools, clubs, community organisations carrying out their activities in the Greater Wellington Region. This includes Kapiti, Porirua, Hutt Valley and the Wairarapa. We welcome projects that are new, innovative or transformational with the aim to increase the number of school-aged children participating in organised sport. These projects can be for any length of time up to 3 years.

PARTNERSHIPS between schools, sports, clubs and community organisations with a common goal are strongly encouraged. There also needs to be an ALIGNMENT between national, regional and local sporting organisations (i.e. Club > RSO > NSO).

Eligible Projects

We would anticipate receiving applications for projects such as:

  • Out-of-school programmes
  • After-school programmes
  • Sporting breakfast clubs
  • 8-10 week multi-sports taster sessions with follow-up work
  • Multi-skill clubs/festivals
  • Initiatives focused on specific groups e.g. girls or disabled
  • Coaching sessions; sport specific or skill-based sport packages e.g. Grasshopper Tennis
  • Holiday Programmes (sport specific)
  • Training student leaders

Non-Eligible Projects

Projects that will not be eligible are:

  • Projects that undermine existing club or volunteer infrastructure
  • Projects that are considered to be business as usual
  • Sport facilities and other capital works
  • Projects that do not have a focus on organised sport
  • One-off events and event sponsorship
  • Retrospective projects
  • Social marketing campaigns
  • Projects that focus on nutrition and/or physical activity
  • Funding for sport equipment or uniforms

Things You Should Know

  • We would prefer to fund project amounts over $7,500 as these are more likely to show evidence of new, improved or innovative sporting opportunities for school-aged children
  • Applications are to be electronically submitted ONLY, all applications will receive an email acknowledgment
  • Joint applications should be completed in the name of the lead organisation with support from partners
  • Application must include verification of partnerships (email, letter of support), a business or strategic plan for the length of the project and evidence of partnership contribution and impact
  • Funding is GST exclusive 
  • Sport Wellington will publish results of funding decisions and will share project progress with the community

Notification Of Funding

All applicants will be advised in writing regarding the outcome of their application. All decisions are final.

A funding investment agreement will be established between Sport Wellington and the applicant once the applicant has been approved by the Sport Wellington Board of Trustees. Successful applicants will receive their funding payment by direct credit, all funding is GST exclusive.

A payment schedule will be included in the investment agreement between Sport Wellington and the applicant. Any unspent funding must be returned to Sport Wellington.

Accountability And Reporting

Sport Wellington is required to report to Sport NZ on an annual basis. As such, an accountability report will be required for all successful applicants. The details of what will be required in this report will form part of the investment agreement as mentioned above.
