Sport Kapiti Sports House

Goal

To be recognised as a “knowledge centre” for the sport and recreation sector, in the Kapiti Coast District

Location

The Sports House is located at 14 Parata Street, Waikanae. It aspires to be the first point of call for the community when, linking groups and individuals of similar interests, providing groups and individuals with access to information, such as, funding, contact details or new sport or physical recreation initiatives.   

Services

The Sports House offers a subsidised photocopying service, free meeting room, use of IT equipment, hire of events caravan and sporting equipment to all sporting codes and physical activity providers, general public, and schools within the region.  It also provides a free quarterly newsletter for sports clubs.

Information and Data

The Sports House provides the community with information about events and training courses that are run by Sport Kapiti, Sport Wellington Region or other organisers in the area. This information is held at the office for walk-in or phone enquiries and on the website which is update daily for those web browsing. Relevant information is frequently sent out to target markets (e.g. schools, rest homes etc) to increase participation or education in Sport or Physical Activities. Day to day contact data (databases) are available to the community to link to Sport and Physical Activities. The key to helping support people engage with their community is the shared information Sport Kapiti has connected and facilitated information for it’s communities.

Tenants and Tenant Services

A critical factor toward improving the collaboration of sports and Physical Activity groups and the development of effective systems has been through the added investment of an Administrator at the Sports House. Currently the Sports House, accommodates; netball, cricket and bowls, which allows for enhanced communications across the codes.   At present the tenancy is at 100%.  In addition, the Sports House also accommodates the Sport Wellington Region Active Communities Team (3 members), who provide support to Green Prescription patients throughout the Wellington region.  All tenants are supported in terms of internet, email and photocopying services. The Sports House also services specialist Sport Wellington Staff (CBU’s) who may be working with groups, schools, rest homes, early childhood centres in the Kapiti area.  These staff frequently use Sport Kapiti as a base and are able to remotely access their Wellington computers.
