Under 5s

Children learn from movement and physical activity.  It is important for healthy brain development that children move.  Early childhood experiences are critical to the development of the skills, attitudes and confidence required to become an active participant in sport and recreation in later life.

Sport Wellington's goal in Early Childhood is to:

Promote, educate and support the importance of quality physical movement experiences for all children under 5 to grow and to become New Zealand's most successful sporting and physically active community.

At Sport Wellington, we work with early childhood teachers to help foster and develop the foundation and fundamental  movement skills of children under 5 so they can grow and develop to eventually participate in sports.  If you would like more information with how we can work with your centre, contact Tania Atkinson below.

Sport Wellington offers a variety of opportunities for those who care for children under 5:

Buggy Walks

Throughout the year, the Sport Wellington Buggy Walks are held in various Parks and Forests and suburbs within the Greater Wellington Region.  These walks are free to take part in, and help to encourage new mums/dads/grandparents/caregivers a great opportunity to explore the region in a friendly way.
