Nuku Ora Regional Programme Advisor

Kia rau nuku, kia rau wai, kia rau ora

It is from this whakataukī that the name Nuku Ora is derived. Nuku Ora is a concept that represents activity, movement, life, and joy. It encompasses the outcomes that we want to achieve in our region and reflects our vision of “Hauora. Everyone active, healthy, and happy.”

Nuku Ora is the independent body for physical activity in the Wellington region. We are a charitable Regional Sports Trust dedicated to improving people’s holistic wellbeing through physical activity. We work across health, education and physical activity sectors in play, active recreation, active transport, and sport.

We are looking for a permanent, full time Regional Programme Advisor (40 hours per week) to join the Regional Programme teams (supporting the Kāpiti, Porirua and Wellington regions). As a Regional Programme Advisor your role is community-based, working directly with whānau and individuals towards improved wellbeing outcomes through healthy eating and physical activity support. The Regional Programme teams are equity-focussed and values-driven, and these roles involve building strong and effective relationships with Māori and Pasifika communities.

Key tasks of this role include:

  • Individualised or whānau healthy lifestyle support to referred participants of the Green Prescription programme. Support is participant-led, with opportunities to support with:
    • Taha tinana: physical activity, nutrition habits, health literacy
    • Taha hinengaro: mental wellbeing and resilience
    • Taha wairua: confidence and self esteem
    • Taha whānau: social connection and quality time
  • Lead or support the delivery of community-based group programmes appropriate to the needs of participants, in partnership with community organisations
  • Proactively link participants in with community-based services, events and opportunities that support their health and wellbeing goals
  • Accurate record keeping including programme administration, evaluation and contribution to reporting requirements
  • Working positively and constructively across the Nuku Ora Team

The ideal person will be a champion in their community, have a background in nutrition, midwifery, health, wellbeing, hauora or physical activity, who is passionate about making a difference, developing people, and committed to Nuku Ora’s purpose and direction.

Nuku Ora prides itself on having a fun and flexible workplace which encourages collaboration.  We are big on employee development and offer varied and challenging work.  We love to celebrate the success of our staff, our teams and our organisation.  We also love connecting as a team over morning tea or a social activity. As well as being part of a great team you will also have access to heaps of benefits, including: 2 x Wellbeing days a year, a volunteer day every year, flexible working and ongoing, comprehensive professional development. We are committed to creating a diverse environment and are proud to be an equal opportunities employer – we welcome applications from across communities.

Nuku Ora is committed to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi across our organisation and the work we do. Knowledge of, or demonstrated interest in learning, te reo Māori me ōna Tikanga will therefore be an advantage.
