Sport Wellington hosts its second two day workshop to build better coaches
31 October 2019
Over 19 & 20 September, Sport Wellington facilitated their second Coach Developer training workshop for 2019. The two-day workshop was attended by Coach Developers from Rugby, Squash, Tennis, Petanque, Volleyball, BMX, Netball and Softball and also included two Umpire Developers from Netball.
The workshop was led by a group of experienced Trainers from different regional organisations who created an energetic learning environment to explore; the role of the Coach Developer, the different settings that Coach Developers work in, and the skills and tools that can help the Coach Developer better support and develop their coaches.
The Coach Developers participated in a wide variety of activities and sessions throughout the workshop including ‘speed dating’ to share ideas, tasks to practice different Coach Developers skills, and the writing of haikus to reflect on their learning journey.
Reflection haiku from one of the Coach Developers:
What is my purpose
My job is to ask things clear
Coach put answer here
Within all coaching systems Coach Developers can play an important role in supporting, developing and building the capability of coaches – we look forward to the positive impact that these Coach Developers will have with the wide range of coaches they are supporting and developing.
