Check out all the other wonderful winners and finalists from the Women in Governance Awards. With categories such as, 'Outstanding Pathway to Governance Leadership', 'Emerging Leader' and 'Gender Advocacy Champion', the Awards are a great reflection of women successfully pursuing a career in governance - which we were also pleased to see was well represented with finalists from within the sport and rec sector.

Sport Wellington was very honoured last night to be announced as winner of the Women in Governance 'Organisation of the Year'! Recognised for our ongoing and established commitment to equality for women in both governance and management, Chair of the Board, David Clarke, Deputy Chair, Lorena Stephen, and Commercial Development Manager, Kirsten Kilmister represented Sport Wellington at the Awards and will be carefully transporting the beautiful (glass) trophy home! Women on Boards is a division of Governance NZ and has an aim to 'achieve equality by elevating women in governance and leadership'. They are championing the cause of women having a voice and being confident in your abilities. Sport Wellington is proud to have been recognised as an organisation that embodies this ethos and culture. Thank you to Diligent for sponsoring the Organisation of the Year award and congratulations to the other finalists, Christchurch NZ and NZ Recreation Association.

Over 200 secondary school students developed their coaching skills across a number of workshops held throughout the Wellington region this month. In partnership with College Sport Wellington and ACCSportSmart, the KiwiSport funded ‘Getting Started in Coaching’ courses give attendees a ‘start up toolkit’ to build their coaching confidence and equip them with the skills to provide a positive experience for those they are coaching and ensure their ongoing participation in sport. Since 2015, 26 secondary schools and over 1,000 students have taken part in the courses resulting in an impact on more than 10,000 children in the greater Wellington region. And a big thanks to Wellington Rugby, Capital Football, Capital Hockey, Capital Zone Basketball Trust, Netball Wellington Centre, Netball Hutt Valley Centre, and Kapi Mana Netball Centre for delivering sessions throughout the courses!
