Under 5s
Children are born to move and in their early stages they have a desire to move and learn about themselves and their relationship to the environment in which they live.
Movement is the basis of who we are today because it develops and strengthens the body and brain as we grow through childhood.
Sport Wellington's goal in Early Childhood is to:

Promote, educate and support the importance of quality physical movement experiences for all children under 5 to grow and to become New Zealand's most successful sporting and physically active community.
Sport Wellington's Outcomes in Early Childhood are:
- Initiatives and resources for early childhood participation are supported through sustainable community partnerships and relationships.
- Targeted educators, caregivers, early childhood settings and communities have knowledge and receive training in "Active Movement" concepts and outcomes.

Active Movement This initiative was developed by SPARC and Sport Wellington is responsible for the delivery/training of the Active Movement initiative to parents. teachers and trainee teachers. The Active Movement adviser provides workshops to a variety of people within the community to help increase parents knowledge in this area, as well as helping promote quality movement for under 5s. Buggy Walks Throughout the year, the Sport Wellington Buggy Walks are held in various Parks and Forests and suburbs within the Greater Wellington Region. These walks are free to take part in, and help to encourage new mums/dads/grandparents/caregivers a great opportunity to explore the region in a friendly way.
